The Cosmetic Effects of Botox
The cosmetic effects that botox achieves are those surrounding age reduction, there is still a huge gap in most people’s knowledge about how it creates the effect it does. To help with this, we need to step back a few decades to when this substance was first researched and used. It may be famous now for its use in cosmetic surgery but it wasn’t always that way when it was first being studied by scientists half a century ago,it was tested for use as a treatment for disorders of the mind.
A few decades later after much research, the FDA granted permission for it to be used medically and the first patients to make use of the drug were those with eye conditions, some of these included patients with excessive, involuntary blinking and for those suffering with crossed eyes plus, on occasion, wrinkles. In the year 2000 was given the all clear for the of treatment cervical dystonia.this helps people with contractions in the upper back and shoulder and neck area, plus other eye disorders. However, it was the discovery of the effect botox had on reducing frown lines that finally changed things,it was after this discovery that it officially came into existence and was FDA approved for cosmetic use in 2002. Botox is injected into the muscles of the forehead, it blocks nerve impulses which results in the weakening of the muscles that cause frowning,in time frown lines gradually soften and subside if sufficient treatments are given. In many cases the lines eventually disappear completely but it can also be injected into the muscles of the face that cause crows feet, forehead lines and frown lines. The injections are actually a diluted form of botulism, this same botulism can make us very ill but when use in cosmetic surgery it is a purified form the Botulinum toxin.
Unfortunately, lines and creases form whenever we laugh (especially as we get older) or make any other facial gesture, they are caused by muscles contracting. After years of making these expressions the wear and tear on your face begins to be noticeable and the lines start to become permanent, while many manufacturers have tried to produce creams that eliminate these wrinkles and creases (unsuccessfully), this treatment can at least for a short period. Because botox paralyzes the facial muscles, normal movement, expressions and gestures are almost impossible to make, many people believe that overuse leaves the recipient with a look similar to that of a mannequin.
Depending on the amount of treatments, a person can look fairly normal but their facial gestures will be restricted so that the creases and lines do not show. While popular this cosmetic treatment is still very expensive for what it is,often considered something only celebrities can afford because a single injection can cost anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars. As a recent form of cosmetic enhancement it may be some time before the full facts about long term botox use will be known but for now, most people really aren\’t that concerned.
